My First Steps Down the Long, Quiet Road to Recovery
A cyst plucked, a polyp lazered and a voice that's only getting better!
Hello. You’ve reached Time & Temperature.
I made it, y’all.
The wonderful team at Westchester Medical got me all fixed up and I’m recuperating at home. The procedure was a success, though my newly-acquired operatic ability remains as-yet-unproven. In fact, I’m on doctor-ordered complete silence for the next stretch — like Leonard Cohen in his monastery era minus the cigarettes.
Turns out, staying quiet doesn’t come so easily to the kid that the grade-school bullies dubbed “Opera Singer.” But so far, mostly so good…
I’ve accidentally spoken twice, and both times it was to my dog Ziggy. He’s just so cute with his new haircut and seasonal bowtie!
I have big plans for the winter, both personally and artistically. I look forward to sharing with y’all the fruits of the latter at least. Also, I’m planning to return to regular essay writing here. Please let me know in the comments if there are any topics you’d like me to address.
Finally, I’m hoping that each and every one of you have a wonderful holiday. I know these times can be fraught with anxiety and sadness, but I’m hoping we can all focus on the love and happiness there is in our world. As my son Max likes to say, I “appreci-love" you all. And soon enough I’ll be saying (and singing!) all kinds of stuff.
yrs,
Rhett
So happy to see your status update and all went well! ❤️ I’d probably need to tape my mouth shut to stop me from talking to my cats because it happens all the time.
Glad to hear everything went well, best wishes for a speedy recovery! Just picked up my tickets yesterday for the Portland, OR show in April. Looking forward to my happiest day of 2025! If you haven't managed to see Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 4 Episode 10 by now, you might find it amusing during your mandated quiet time. The episode is called, "Hush" and it's a well regarded mostly silent masterpiece with some of those coolest villains the small screen has ever seen. Take care of yourself and Happy Holidays!
